Ricoh Printers

The directions below allow a computer running Apple OS X, 10.5 or 10.6, to print to a networked Ricoh multifunction copier/scanner/printer.

Getting Started

  • NOTE: Before adding a new networked printer, find out the queue name, manufacturer and model number of your printer. (The queue name will be a set of six numbers and letters, usually starting with the letter P and containing the first three letters of your building name.) The printer should be labeled with its queue name. If you cannot find the queue name, please contact the Computing Help Desk (x3333) for assistance.

Configuring your network printer for an OS X application

  • Go to the Apple menu and click on System Preferences .
  • Click on Print & Fax .
  • Click on the plus (+) sign to add a new printer.
  • In the new window that appears, click IP .

  • For Protocol, select Line Printer Daemon - LPD .
  • For Address, type the queue name (e.g., plib3a ). When you have finished typing the queuename, the message "Incomplete or invalid address" will disappear and may be replaced by "Complete and valid address."
  • Leave the Queue field blank.
  • For Print Using, select the printer manufacturer and model. If the printer's model is not listed, download the driver for it here, based on your operating system: 10.5 | 10.6/7/8
  • Click Add .
  • Depending on the printer added, an Installable Options window may appear. If you have a duplex printer, check Duplex Unit . Leave all other fields unchanged and click Continue .
  • In the Print & Fax window, make sure the Default Printer is correct.
  • If you typically print to multiple printers, consider renaming each printer something less cryptic than the default queue name. To rename a printer, click on a printer in the printer list and click Options & Supplies... In the window that appears, change the name to be something more familiar. Click OK .
  • Quit System Preferences when you are done.

Setting up a default printer

  • Go to the Apple menu and click on System Preferences .
  • Click on Print & Fax .
  • Change the Default Printer to your desired printer in the dropdown menu.
  • The chosen printer should now have Default listed under it in the printer list.
  • Quit System Preferences.
